Fallout Newsletter January/February 2011

"Hope of Dreams" helps people to connect
"Hope of Dreams" is the name of a newly formed group who's goal is to help people with disabilities connect with the Fallout. Members meet to brainstorm ways for people with disabilities to be connected to the community. They also help plan and volunteer at events. The group who meets Wednesday nights at 6pm has over 15 members and welcomes anyone to join. The name "Hope of Dreams" was chosen by the members as a reflection of their mission to dream the future of the Fallout and take action to make those dreams come true.
Writing project
There were over 20 participants in the writing project that was presented by the Fallout Creative Community. Writers met each week though the month to discuss elements of good writing and to do creative writing exercises together. The weekly assignment was to write each day in their journal
and to share things they wrote at the gatherings. The final gathering was a workshop presented by Nick Eilts who led the group in writing a collaborative story inspired by the drama that goes on in the participants lives. The project was so fun the participants still meet weekly to write stories, songs and screenplays.

Cleberg Receives Award from Aspire
Fallout director, Dan Cleberg was honored with the Mrs. Paul C. Green Award at Aspire's annual christmas party. The award is given annually in recognition of outstanding contribution to people supported by Aspire. Fallout member Beth Ann Carson was also nominated for the award.

Fallout film making
Preproduction is underway on two movies that will be produced by the Fallout. The first is a fantasy about a wizard who tries to take over a mall and the ninjas who battle them. This movie is being created by people who took part in the writing project in December and decided to keep the creativity flowing by writing a screenplay. Filming will begin by the end of January.
The other film has been in the making for many years. It's the brainchild of high school student X Murray and her friends who have been forming the story since third grade. It's horror movie set at a summer camp. Film
ing will begin this summer.

Art Gallery
The Fallout presents "Transitions," the abstract paintings of Kathryn Costas in the month of January at the Red Rooster Coffee House Art Gallery. February will be the art of Gladys Rico.
Call For Submission:
March is the annual "Abilities Art Show" featuring arti
sts with disabilities from the area. The Fallout is accepting works of art for this show. Deadline is February 25th. If you know of any artists with disabilities let them know of this opportunity.

Creative Santas
The Fallout was commissioned by the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce to take the old statues of Santa Claus that are displayed each year around town and give them a creative makeover. Fallout artists Bridget Solsaa, Jake Bosmoe and Dan Cleberg each gave an old Santa a new look. The Statues were displayed on Main street and inspired area artists to adopt the rest of the dozen or so Santas for a makeover for next year.

Soundscapes on CD
Corey Thornburgh has been blind since birth but that hasn't slowed down his creative energy. Last year he enjoyed the premiere of a film that he wrote co-produced and starred in, "Frieemftman" this was followed by a series of legendary performance art acts for Fallout Open Mic nights. Now Corey is colaborating with Dan Cleberg to create a CD of soundscapes. The sound is avant garde/new age with a few dance numbers thrown in. The CD will have a release/listening party in February.
